Folks, my Windows Forms toolbox is empty for .NET 6 projects. I've expended hours on web searches and "Resets" and experiments but it's utterly hopeless. I've run out of ideas. The problem is only on my work PC, not my idental laptop or in a VM. Has anyone experienced this and fixed it? There must be something peculiar about my work PC, but what?!? I could start randomly uninstalling and installing stuff again, but that could go on for days with no promise of a fix. Why does crap like this happen so often? Sometimes I spend more time keeping my PC and development environment working than I do actually writing software. *Greg K*
Greg, in a situation like this the only thing that comes to mind (after all the usual searching and reinstalls you've already tried) is to search the windows logs for any clues. Also perhaps work machines are some obscure hardening/firewall/similar type settings that are blocking call out/in and the software behaving stupidly based on that. <vent> As the decades go on, the obscurity of trying to find things going wrong in windows is pushing me farther and farther away from recommending/wanting to build software on it. I'm going to take a break and do some gardening and talk to the cat about the problem. When I get back later I'll maybe have some fresh ideas. If you abandoned Windows development it would take a slice of the market away. Where could you go? macOS, Linux, Apple, Android... I wonder if you'd just be jumping out of the frying pan into another one. I've often puzzled over this myself when I burn out. I'll post the answer if I ever find it. *Greg*

Good idea. I forgot that option was a drop-down on the Installer. It's not all hugs and puppies though, because this happened: * The repair took about 20 mins and asked for a reboot. * Running VS2022 caused a flash of a window and it silently crashed and vanished. Event log reports a .NET runtime crash. * I cleaned vast numbers of vs* folders and files from %TEMP% and rebooted. * VS2022 stalled opening a Form in the designer. I closed the window and it restarted itself. * I finally opened the .NET 6.0 project Windows Forms designer and the toolbox is empty. So unfortunately, it was all futile. Good idea though. *Greg K*
